We’re so excited to welcome back Mark Rodgers, music teacher at the Texas School for the Blind and Visually Impaired. Mark is truly gifted at finding the inner musician in each of his students. Over the course of one week, Mark assembles a classroom band, teaches the basics on a variety of instruments (provided, but students are encouraged to bring their own if they have one), and has the class learn a couple of songs. He brings his recording equipment and his students get to learn how to record and mix tracks. Mark welcomes students of all levels of music knowledge, so whether his students are new to music or experienced players, he will meet them at their level and nurture their talents. Jennifer, Agua Fresca Studios owner and art teacher, will lead the art portion of the class with a focus on the idea of art as activism. She’s looking forward to working with teen and pre-teen students on projects that challenge the students to think about ways they can make a difference in their community through art. One of the projects will involve creating original screen prints that can be printed on reusable shopping bags and sold as a fundraiser for our local food bank, Crisis Bread Basket. It will be really exciting to see our projects develop with a purpose, to make an impact in our community, and to express creatively the issues that each individual student finds important.
Please bring/wear the following each day:
* a reusable water bottle
* two snacks
* a sack lunch
* wear art-friendly clothes (we also have art t-shirts available)
* wear water-friendly shoes that secure well to the feet (NO FLIP FLOPS)
