This camp is a regular hit with our young ones! Purly Gates is a wonderful local musician and patient, experienced teacher. She’ll be leading our budding musicians through a week of instrument creating and performing. The kids will work together to make a marimba installation on site plus a couple of smaller individual instruments. They’ll learn several songs and will work as a group to record their musical performances in a radio show style podcast, with each student taking home a recording of the podcast at the end of the week. Jennifer Ober, Agua Fresca Studios owner and art teacher, will lead the other half of the camp. The students will explore a variety of different art media, including clay*, and will learn a bit of art history as it relates to our projects. We’ll have our little hands in all sorts of fun, messy supplies, so be sure to wear art-friendly clothes. If you joined us last year and want to join again, that’s great! Jennifer always waits to see who is joining the camp before planning projects so that she can make sure every project is a new experience for every camper.
*Please note that clay projects must dry for several days before they can be fired in the kiln, so clay projects will need to be picked up at a later date. If your child would like to glaze (add color!) to his or her ceramic piece(s), you can always sign up for one of the glazing days later in the summer.
Please bring/wear the following each day:
* a reusable water bottle
* two snacks
* a sack lunch
* wear art-friendly clothes (we also have art t-shirts available)
* wear water-friendly shoes that secure well to the feet or sneakers (NO FLIP FLOPS)
To Register: Please complete the student profile, then add the class to your cart and select the ‘pay with a credit card’ option. If you prefer to pay with cash or check, just email Jennifer at firstname.lastname@example.org to make arrangements.
